Delete your Melibri account
Last updated: 13 August 2026
This page explains how to delete your Melibri account and the data attached to it, what gets deleted, what is kept, and for how long. It applies to the Melibri app for Android and iOS.
The short version. Open Melibri and go to Settings → Delete My Account. Your account is deactivated straight away, your data is held for 30 days in case you change your mind, and after that it is permanently erased. If you cannot sign in, email privacy@melibri.app and we will do it for you.
How to delete your account from the app
- Open the Melibri app and make sure you are signed in to the account you want to delete.
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete My Account.
- Read the confirmation screen, then confirm the deletion.
You will be signed out immediately and your profile stops appearing to other users the moment you confirm.
How to request deletion without the app
If you have uninstalled Melibri, lost access to your Google account, or would simply rather not use the in-app option, email privacy@melibri.app from the email address associated with your Melibri account, and ask us to delete it.
Sending the request from the account's own email address is how we confirm it is really you. If you cannot, tell us your Melibri username and we will find another way to verify you before deleting anything. We action requests within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
What is deleted
After the 30-day grace period described below, all of the following are permanently erased:
- Your account and sign-in details
- Your profile - username, bio, profile photo, and privacy settings
- Every recipe you created or saved, including ingredients, instructions, notes, tags and variants
- Every photo you uploaded, including recipe photos and your profile photo
- Your cookbooks, folders, favourites, grocery lists and meal plans
- Your dietary preferences and allergen settings
- Your friends, followers, follow relationships and pending friend requests
- Your app settings and synced preferences
What is kept, and for how long
The 30-day grace period
When you delete your account it is deactivated immediately, but your data is retained for 30 days. This exists so that an accidental or regretted deletion can be undone: signing back in during that window restores your account and everything in it. Once the 30 days elapse, the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered by you or by us.
Recipes other people saved
When you share a recipe and another user saves it, they hold their own copy of it. Those copies stay in their collections after your account is deleted, and are no longer attributed to you or linked to your profile. We cannot remove a recipe from someone else's collection any more than we could unsend a recipe card you had handed to a friend.
Moderation and legal records
If content on your account was flagged by our moderation systems or reported by another user, we may keep the related moderation record beyond the 30 days where we need it to enforce our Terms of Service or to comply with the law. These records contain internal identifiers and the moderation outcome, not your recipes or photos.
Backups
Residual copies may persist in encrypted infrastructure backups for a short period after deletion. They are not accessible to the app, are never restored selectively, and age out on our provider's normal backup rotation.
Deleting some of your data without deleting your account
You do not have to delete your whole account to remove things. From inside the app you can, at any time:
- Delete individual recipes, photos, cookbooks, folders, grocery lists and meal plans
- Clear your bio and remove your profile photo
- Clear your dietary preferences and allergen settings
- Remove friends and followers, and make your profile private
Before you go, you can export everything you have made from Settings → Backup & Restore, which writes a full backup file to your device.
